If you are anything like most of us. You are interested in starting pole, but also a little nervous at the thought! It's not a sport that you were taught about in physical education and can still seem quite taboo.. you have no idea what to expect and therefore how to prep for success. The models in the pole advertisements are doing impressive stunts and here you are, trying hard to touch your toes & do a pull up... Well, WE TOTALLY GET IT!
I have designed this page to assure you, you have come to the right place and you are ready to start your journey! You do not have to be a certain size, shape, gender, height or fitness level to start pole. Of course, it makes a difference to the experience.. but it certainly doesnt exlude you from starting and enjoying the process. In fact, starting this journey has proven to be a great motivator for pole and aerial students to hit fitness goals out of the studio, to enhance their skills and abilities in studio!
We start from the ground up. Our educated and experienced instructor team takes you from go to WOAH! Our foundations course guides you gently through the mechanics of the apparatus, the physics applied to your movement around it, nerve desensitisation, assistance in gripping techniques & aids, muscular strength & endurance building drills and flexibility basics. All of these aspects are neatly tucked into a fun learning program consisting of upright ground level tricks that will have you ADDICTED in no time!! & if you are already fit & strong, we have you covered with optional progressions within the tricks curriculum provided.
WHY WE WEAR MINIMAL CLOTHING FOR POLE..
your first physics lesson is free! Lets geek out!!
Friction is a fundamental concept in the field of pole dance mechanics.
It is a contact force that opposes the motion between surfaces in contact.
So what does that mean?!? Well.. we need to provide the poles surface with another surface with somewhat adhesive properties to the pole coating, a surface that creates a static friction.. skin can create this! However, even then, we need to ensure the skin is not oily and has a paricular amount of hydration, not to moist, not to dry! We refer to this as tack. So how do we know?? Well.. thats what our instructors are here to help you with.
WHAT TO WEAR: You want to wear stretchy and supportive clothing such as gym shorts and a gym bra. This can be accompanied by a singlet and a pair of looser fitting short shorts over the top, if you feel more comfortabe this way. Your thighs must be accessible for pole sits, and your arms including armpits must also be accessible.
WHAT TO BRING: water bottle and sweat towel. If you have sensitive knees, it would be worth investing in knee pads, they cost $20-40 and you will use them every lesson. Rebel sports is one place locally that stocks them.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR: Do not apply moisturiser on the day of class and make sure any previous lotions or oils have been removed. Tip: don't overdo your hair oils and avoid toucing your hair during class. Next item on the agenda, do not wear jewellery to class. If you have jewellery on when entering the studio, make sure you take it off and store it in a safe place as it damages the poles and poses a health and safety risk, especially rings.
Our studio space is intimate, so do not bring children and/or pets unless the owner has given you a special exemption to this rule.
